Our Research
Understanding the environment and its resources, in line with the priorities of sustainable development, is the main aim of our research activity.
BiGeA builds on its multidisciplinary ethos by strengthening interdisciplinarity, which is essential for understandingcomplex phenomena on a changing planet.
Our multidisciplinary approach to the analysis of the biosphere and geosphere involves us in many Research Areas, based on the study and management of continental and marine environments, biodiversity, geological and environmental risks, and their impact. In addition, there are innovative research themes on a variety of topics, ranging from unconventional energy sources to climate change.
To achieve these objectives, the Department has for some time been implementing a series of measures aimed at stimulating competitiveness and promoting innovation, in the belief that the global challenges of the future can be successfully addressed through the development, transformation and partial reorientation of the unique competencies rooted within the Department.

Research projects
Research projects are academic initiatives aimed at exploring and developing new knowledge in various scientific and technological fields.
Increasing our participation in competitive calls for proposals is one of our strategic objectives. Over the last decade, thanks to our diverse research activities, we have been involved in over 70 national and international competitive projects. We have successfully distinguished ourselves in over 30 PRIN projects, 14 projects under Horizon 2020 and Horizon Europe, 5 LIFE projects and through the involvement of around ten young researchers in ERC project proposals. Furthermore, we have been significantly involved in PNRR research activities.
Laboratories
Research laboratories are the venues where research takes place and where innovation comes to life.
