Marine Science

An interdisciplinary field of study aimed at understanding and conserving different marine and coastal systems by studying organisms, their habitats, oceanographic characteristics, biogeochemical processes and the effects of human activities.

Marine sciences are the study of marine and coastal ecosystems. They encompass the biological, geological, physical and chemical aspects of marine environments, with the aim of understanding their biodiversity, shallow and deep-water processes, and biotic and abiotic interactions. They also explore the impact of human activities on marine life and the environment. Marine science helps to address issues such as pollution, overfishing and the effects of climate change on the sea. It is fundamental to the sustainable management of marine resources and the blue economy. It combines disciplines such as marine biology, geosciences and environmental sciences to improve our knowledge and management of the world's oceans, thereby contributing to their conservation and sustainable use.
