Published: 30 August 2024 | Innovazione e ricerca

The Department of Geological Biological and Environmental Sciences (BiGeA) of the University of Bologna is a partner in the ACTION project "Increasing coastal ecosystem resilience to climate change", financed by the Interreg VI-A Italy-Croatia Programme 2021 - 2027.

The Department of Geological Biological and Environmental Sciences (BiGeA) is one of the eight project partners, together with the Municipality of Ravenna, which is the project leader, Po Delta Park, Delta Institute Applied Ecology, Vransko Lake Nature Park, Ruđer Bošković Institute, Regional Nature Park Coastal Dunes from Torre Canne to Torre San Leonardo, City of Ploce.

Its specific aim is to promote climate change adaptation and disaster risk prevention, resilience, taking into account Nature Based Solutions (NBS) approaches and related ecosystem services. However, it includes the achievement of other objectives such as:

  • Identifying climate change-related hazards and threats for the pilot areas in the medium to long term. The characterization of the 4 pilot areas, all Natura 2000, with natural and cultural heritage provides the basis for the development of subsequent WPs;
  • Capitalize on previous experiences and select nature-based solutions to increase the resilience of the pilot areas;
  • Test integrated climate adaptation solutions in the four pilot areas of the project;
  • Share the Joint Action Plan and transfer it to the programme area.

After the Preliminary meeting, which took place both online and in Ravenna, the next steps will be to organize bilateral coordination meetings with the partnership before the Kick-off meeting in September 2024.

The project started on 01.04.2024 and its activities will end by 30.09.2026.
