Conservation biology

Conservation biology is a crucial scientific discipline dedicated to addressing the global crisis of biodiversity loss. This field is inherently multidisciplinary, drawing on knowledge from different subjects, rooted in ecology and genetics but integrating insights from molecular biology, evolutionary biology, sociology, economics and others. This holistic approach allows scientists and practitioners to develop comprehensive strategies for biodiversity conservation. The main research areas at the Department BIGEA include conservation genetics, which studies populations, conservation planning, focusing on the establishment of protected areas, and sustainable management of species ecosystems and resources.
