Organism-Environment Interaction

We refer to the complex set of relationships that develop between living beings and their habitat, where organisms influence and are influenced by the surrounding environmental conditions, of which we study molecular, biochemical and physiological aspects.

Studying organism-environment interaction means deepening our understanding of the reciprocal and ongoing relationship between living beings (plants, animals, microorganisms) and all the elements of their environment: abiotic (such as temperature, water, soil, light) and biotic (such as other individuals, species, predators, competitors, etc.). The interaction is dynamic because the environment influences organisms (the hemoglobin of high-altitude mammals, including humans, has a greater affinity for oxygen), but organisms influence the environment (plants absorb CO₂ and release O₂ through photosynthesis).
