Environmental problems related to salinization processes in transitional environment

Climate change, water exploitation, subsidence, salt water intrusion and land management significantly influence both coastal soil and aquifers characteristics. Both soil saturation and salinization greatly influence the vegetation cover and agricultural crops. The research group is involved in the monitoring and assessment of the relation between ground water, soil characteristics and vegetation. Surficial and deep water chemical characteristics are also investigated in respect to the solid matrix to assess the behavior of some chemical elements.
