Floristic laboratory

In the Floristic laboratory, located in Via Irnerio 42, Palazzina Bentivoglio, research, teaching and third party activities are carried out. The activity of the laboratory consists in the preparation and analysis of samples of vascular plants, lichens and bryophytes in order to provide their correct identification.

 

Laboratory equipment

The laboratory is equipped with three dissecting microscopes, one of which has a camera for images capturing, and two optical microscopes, one of which has a camera for images capturing. There are also manuals and identifications keys for vascular plants, lichens and bryophytes, an educational herbarium under construction and a research herbarium.

 

Teaching, training, and research activities

The laboratory allows students to carry out internships and thesis internships (for bachelor and master’s degree students) and also hosts Italian and international PhD students and post-doc researchers. The research activities related to the lab are mainly focused on floristic and taxonomy and also support ecological-vegetational studies. The specimens identified and resulting from research activities are stored into the University herbarium (BOLO).

 

Services and consultancy

Consultancy activities are occasionally carried out in support of assignments on behalf of third parties that require identification of plant specimens.
